PUBG Mobile Grips Explained

You are currently viewing PUBG Mobile Grips Explained

PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds is one of the most popular battle royale games for mobile. In this game milliseconds decide who wins and who dies. We have all been in the situation where the opponent is left with less than 10 HP and we are dead. The choice of gun, muzzle attachment or grip may seem like a small detail, but on the highly competitive battleground that PUBG mobile currently is, it is a matter of life and death.

In this article we explain all about the grips, or rather lower rail attachments, since laser sight is not actually a grip, but it gets attached to the lower rail. Be advised that all lower rail attachments except for the laser sight do their thing when you are ADS-ing (Aim Down Sight), they do nothing when you are hip firing, while laser sight works the other way around.

In no particular order, here they are:

Vertical Foregrip

Vertical Foregrip

In-game description: “- Vertical recoil”

What it does: reduces vertical recoil.

The vertical foregrip has the largest fanbase in the game. Unfortunately, as it should not. This grip only does one thing and it does it well. It reduces vertical recoil. It does nothing for horizontal recoil. If you set up your weapon sensitivity well enough you can control vertical recoil with any grip. The only thing you need to do to control vertical recoil is pull downwards, as guns only kick up, never down. Horizontal recoil can not be controlled, as you can not predict if the gun will kick left or right.  So for most ARs vertical foregrip is not the ideal option. There are weapons that have virtually no horizontal recoil at all though, so for those weapons this grip is ideal.

Slap a Vertical Foregrip on these guns:

  • SKS
  • C36C
  • UMP45
  • Vector
  • Thompson SMG
  • MP5K
  • MK47 Mutant

Laser Sight

In-game description: “Reduces hip fire spread”

What it does: reduces hip fire spread 🙂

The laser sight is not used a lot and for good reason. The only thing the laser sight does is concentrate the bullet spread in a slightly narrower area when hip firing. It does nothing for ADS. Hence you should only use this attachment on pistols as they can not hold other lower rail attachments and if your game style does not involve using any aiming down a sight, if you always hip fire that is.

Slap a Laser Sight on these guns:

  • Pistols.

Angled Foregrip

Angled Foregrip

In-game description: Reduces horizontal recoil and makes it faster to aim down sight (ADS)

What it does: exactly as is explained in the game.

The angled foregrip is underappreciated in the game as players do not prefer to use it. However this is actually the best grip for most of the ARs. As explained above, horizontal recoil can not be controlled by skill, only vertical can. This grip does nothing for your vertical recoil, but does a great deal in reducing horizontal recoil. Add to that the fact that it speeds up the ADS speed and we have the best grip for ARs. So if you like to spray with an AR (and who doesn’t?), this is the one you need to use. This grip is a combination of Thumb Grip and Half Grip, so it will help you in close quarter combat and medium to long range sprays.

Slap an Angled Foregrip on these guns:

  • M416
  • SCAR-L
  • Beryl M762
  • AUG A3
  • QBZ

Light Grip

Light Grip

In-game description: Significantly increases the speed and stability of aiming after running

What it does: It speeds up recovery of the gun to the initial position after the first bullet shot.

Light grip is best used for tap firing weapons as it speeds up the recovery after the first bullet shot whether you tap fire or spray. So if you spray it does not do much for the recovery after the second, third or twentieth bullet, just the first. With tap firing on the other hand, each next shot counts as the first, so you get this benefit for each shot.

Slap a Light Grip on these guns:

  • SKS
  • MK47 Mutant
  • Any 5.56mm AR if you will use it to tap fire on single shot. Don’t use 7.62mm ARs for tap firing, the bullet speed is too low for this.

Half Grip

Half Grip

In-game description: Reduces recoil and increases recoil recovery, reduces stability when firing

What it does: It reduces horizontal recoil a bit more than the angled grip, but without the ADS speed benefit

This is the second best foregrip for spraying with an AR. It reduces horizontal recoil and does nothing for the vertical recoil or ADS speed.

Slap a Half Grip on these guns (until you find an Angled Foregrip):

  • M416
  • SCAR-L
  • Beryl M762
  • AUG A3
  • QBZ

Thumb Grip

Thumb Grip

In-game description: Reduces scope opening time, slightly reduces vertical recoil, slightly increases stability

What it does: Similar to the Angled Foregrip, except that its focus is on the ADS speed, so with this grip you open the scope the fastest, but it does less for recoil control.

This is a good grip for short range combat. It’s the best for situations where you can benefit from quicker scope opening times, without much need for recoil control. So from CQC to up to 50m combat on ARs. It could also provide benefit on an SKS when you need to peek, shoot and hide quickly.

Slap a Thumb Grip on these guns (until you find an Angled Foregrip):

  • M416
  • SCAR-L
  • Beryl M762
  • AUG A3
  • QBZ
  • SKS (until you find a Light Grip or a Vertical Foregrip)

In conclusion, different grips are useful for different guns, situations and playstyles. The Angled Foregrip is the best for my aggressive playstyle with Beryl M762, but it might not be for you. Know your weapons and attachments well to maximize your efficiency.
